Ballet Muscle exercises formulated and demonstrated by Peter Cirolia
Exercises can be conducted anywhere, holding onto anything that will help you stabilize yourself. Example a barre, wall, chair, cable machine etc.

Exercise#1 Plie straighten
This is how to conduct: Hold onto barre with your left hand while the right hand is held straight out to the side. Stand with heels together in a duck position and only turn your feet out as far as your hips naturally allow you. Hold your pelvis in a neural pelvic tilt position elongating the hip flexors. Then bend the knees pressing the heals down to floor keeping the thighs aligned over the feet. Then return to straight leg duck position. Do 10 reps, 2 sets

Exercise #2 Plie Releve
This is how to conduct: Hold the barre with the left hand while the right hand is held straight out to the side. Start with the heals touching in the duck position holding a neutral pelvic tilt position. Always keeping the hips and pecs aligned. Then bend your knees pressing the heels down to the floor with your thighs aligned over your feet. This is called a plie position. From this position raise the heels up as high as you can elongating the legs to a straight position. As you do this be sure to squeeze your thighs and keep the heels facing each other the entire time as your thighs are held turned out in opposite directions. Then as you lower down bend your knees and come back to the starting plie position. 10 reps, 2 sets

Always keeping the pecs and hips aligned straight across when you look in the mirror. Point your right leg and foot in front of you in the center of your body. Hold the left leg completely straight with your body weight over the ball of the left foot. Make sure to keep the right leg externally rotated toward the outside of the body and the foot pointed throughout exercise. Then lift your right leg 45 degrees and lower back down to the floor. Make sure to always lift from underneath your leg ( use the hamstring muscles, never grip with the quadriceps.) Should be like a lever is lifting your leg up. 10 reps Repeat this to the side and back.

Go see #Snatched Silly Fun, but meeting #GoldieHawn & #AmySchumer amazing!

IMG_1165Snatched was a silly fun movie, dumped by her boyfriend on the eve of their vacation, impetuous dreamer Emily Middleton (Amy Schumer) persuades her cautious mother, Linda (Goldie Hawn), to accompany her on an exotic getaway to South America.  Opposites, Emily and Linda must soon work through their differences to escape from a wildly outrageous and dangerous jungle adventure funny, entertaining. But the best part was meeting Amy and Goldie at TheMom's blogger movie premier event on Park Ave in New York City. The interview was serious at times but Amy true to herself was hysterical The moms interviewed and hosted Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn for a Mamaraazzi event in NYC for their new movie Snatched. They sat down with The MOMS to dish on the film and during the interview Amy admitted “her uterus remains empty for now, but she would like to have kids someday.” I also gave Amy Schumer a crystal for good energy and she liked it! I gave the one to Donald Trump too, hey we all need good energy, maybe on a higher level it will help. We all had a absolute blast and even all dance together in honor of #DanceforBreastCancerChallenge.

Expert Advice to Help Your Teen Make (and Keep!) New Year’s Resolutions

New Year’s resolutions 2017. They’re ambitious, yet intimidating; full of hope, yet all too easily forgotten. And for teens, they’re just plain overwhelming.

“While balanced perspective can be challenging for adults, it is often daunting for teenagers. Impulsivity reigns supreme during adolescence – often limiting our aspirations,” says psychotherapist and Mental Gym founder, Bill Benson, who advises parents on how to approach the subject of New Year’s resolutions with teens.

So how can parents help their teens make lasting New Year’s resolutions? We asked mothers, fathers, family therapists, and parenting experts to contribute their top tips. Their answers may surprise you…

Parents help teens new year's resolutions

1. Set feasible goals.

Instead of brainstorming grandiose life makeovers with your teen, focus on smaller, more actionable items. Varda Meyers Epstein, Kars4Kids writer and mother-of-12, suggests choosing ten little things and concentrating on those, like laying out school clothes the night before or dedicating ten minutes in the morning to a nutritious breakfast. “Any goal that is ‘can-do’ is appropriate for a teen,” Meyers Epstein says, “They already know they can succeed with them, and it gets them moving forward in a proactive, positive way.”

2. Practice “accepting,” not “expecting.”

“Support your kid’s aspirations by ‘accepting’ rather than ‘expecting,’” says Benson, “Kindly step outside of your own boxed perspective when listening to your child’s hopes, dreams, desires, and goals – you just may learn something by considering the fresh perspective of a developing mind.”

As a way to advance this suggestion into practice, try actively listening to your teen’s New Year’s resolutions, then repackage and repeat them back to your teen, before tweaking them with your own suggestions. Doing so will make your teen feel heard and will create a safe space to further conversation.

3. Don’t call them “resolutions.”

“We don’t make New Year’s resolutions,” states Homeschool Base editor, Sarah Tippett, “we set goals and plan! Of course they’re still New Year’s resolution[s], but we approach things very differently.”

So what’s Tippett’s key to helping her teens make and keep these aspirations? “Make the goals very specific and formulate a plan or a checklist of items that need to be done to achieve these goals.”

4. Set goals as a family.

Renaming New Year’s resolutions isn’t the only way Tippett helps her teens achieve their New Year’s goals. “We also set goals as a family,” Tippett states, claiming accountability as the driving force, “The best way to achieve a goal is to tell everyone you know.” Following Tippett’s advice, try encouraging your teen to keep their sibling updated on their goal to read more. As a parent, follow up with your teen by asking questions or provoking discussion around their resolution throughout the year. Set goals as a family (like going on more walks or making sure there’s always something green on the dinner table), and make it a fun challenge to accomplish them together!

5. Make it personal.

“When your goal involves people who are external factors you can’t control, it will not end well,” Tippett warns. Just as there are many good ways to help your teen make New Year’s Resolutions, there are also many avenues to avoid as well. Tippett’s own child attempted to set a New Year’s resolution that involved improving the relationship between himself and a co-worker. “You can’t expect anyone else to ‘go along’ with your resolution,” Tippett cautions, “Although my teen tried to do a great job, the co-worker was unresponsive.”

6. Write it down.

“I like to tell my kids to write down 10 things they can do to improve their lives — in even a very small way — and to work through that list,” says Meyers Epstein. Other parents agree: “Write it down on a piece of paper or tell your teen to put it in their phone,” says Parenting Expert, Cherie Corso, “Every day, your teen will look at that resolution. By seeing it, he or she will remember to take actions towards that goal.”

So now that you know how to make New Year’s resolutions, what types of goals should you help your teens set? As test prep experts, it would be downright irresponsible of us not to advocate for resolutions that can help your teen achieve their future college goals. While you’re planning 2017 resolutions with your teen, include feasible goals to help them improve their ACT scores; like following a personalized ACT study plan or committing to raising their score by 10 points with these easy tips. In addition, our experts came up with a few additional suggestions (in addition to the ones above) that implement their advice, including:

  • making a point to eat healthier at dinner
  • developing a conflict management system to avoid exhaustive feuds with siblings
  • flossing daily

Safety Tips for Pokemon, Fun game but warning!

IMG_8364 IMG_8365

Fun game but  Warning!! This app may be used to lure children into secluded places the game is already linked to injuries, bad driving and opportunistic robberies.

Okay everyone is Pokemon crazy, after walking 5 miles around NYC, I was into it. But I could not help but  thinking about  Safety Tips for playing this game and understanding it!

-Kids are distracted, are far more open to talk to strangers who are playing the game, so make sure that you know where they are and don’t let them play solo, before they know it they are out of their comfort zone. The Pokeman makes it fun to explore and go to new places.

-Kids are ignoring "stranger danger", and falling for fake posts that are on instagram and snap chat in there neighborhoods.

-knowing where the Pokemon is and the predators wait

-eyes rare glued to screen bumping into people, loosing track of where they are

-going out and leaving the familiar area, walking further then they realize

The game could be manipulated by break ins to system

-the game can lure kids to water for “water species Pokemon”

-Also bring a charger with you when you play, batteries on phone get used very quickly

- Commissioner of NYC Bill Bratton, hates this game, due to the accidents and robberies that have been happening around NYC http://nypost.com/2016/07/14/nypd-commissioner-bill-bratton-hates-pokemon-go/

-Is something more sinister going on? Just think, tracking our moves, leading us to new places, and its only a matter of time before big business uses this for advertising at sporting events, dragging us to restaurants we never would have visited.  As a entrepreneur I think its not a fad, its a trend of more to come.

#Tuck Everlasting, entertaining and thought provoking for all ages! I would not want the fountain of youth, would you?

tuckeblstbanner-300x217The reviews for TUCK EVERLASTING are in, and the critics are split…it turn out to be magical Broadway shows. I personally loved it, theater to me is pure relaxation and fun.  Though there are moments of brilliance in the music by Chris Miller, lyrics by Nathan Tysen, and direction and choreography by Casey Nicholaw, the heavy-handed book offers more challenges than rewards. The plot is satisfyingly streamlined, for all audiences of all ages. The acting is commendable overall, but the highlight of the show is Terrence Mann as The Man in the Yellow Suit, portrayed as a delightful carnival barker.  The costumes were beautiful. The singing and dancing magical. I loved this play, it’s a reminder to enjoy every stage of your life and truly I would not want to live forever, nor should we, but go to relive one of your favorite childhood stories.

Earth Day: Green Chic Lifestyle!

WELCOME

My 2015 Beauty Finds

Happy Earth Day 2016! To celebrate such an important occasion, I have curated a special selection of mouth-watering items that will make your life easier and more environmentally-conscious. Who said that green couldn't be chic?

(Psst… Follow the pretty bold pink links to learn more about the products!)

1. Lavender aromatherapy candle by Lather ($10): This gorgeous candle is made exclusively with natural ingredients. Manufactured with paraffin-free and 100% natural soy wax, a spun cotton wick, lavender essential oil and lavender buds, this wonderful candle quickly scents the room with a soothing and calming fragrance. This is one of my personal favorite candles to pair with a relaxing bath or for burning after a stressful day, right before I go to bed.

2. Organic Manuka Honey Lozenges by Wedderspoon ($11.99): Want to bring some USDA Organic Certified goodness in your life? These eucalyptus lozenges are a life saver. Chock-full with manuka honey and bee propolis, they are great to soothe raspy throats without synthetic nasties. Since I discovered them, I always carry a few lozenges in my purse- with this crazy New York spring weather you never know what to expect!

3. Organic mini bath bombs by G2 Organics ($15): The perfect companion for the lavender aromatherapy candle, these small bombs are big in natural contents. One bath bomb is enough to draw a relaxing bath that also soothes and calms the skin (mine is extremely dry, and I have found these beauties also leave it hydrated. Yay!) The set of mini bath bombs includes six amazing scents: Amber, Passion fruit, Mango Cilantro, Aqua Blueberry, Pink Sugar and Fresh Apple (my personal favorite.)

4. Garden-in-a-can by Back to the Roots ($23.96/ 4-pack):  Do you have a green soul but lack the skills to keep your plants alive? Well, you've just found your soul mate: I sometimes believe I left my green hand back in Spain. This wonderful invention by Back To The Roots allows you to plant non-GMO/ USD organic-certified basil (shown in picture), cilantro, sage, and dill in the comfort of your own windowsill. As easy as opening the can, putting the seeds, and watering them, this cute kit allows makes it fun and easy to harvest your own organic herbs. With no chemicals and no messy drainage holes, this garden-in-a-can is the perfect companion for my wardrobe-sized apartment in Gotham, and makes it the ideal companion for families who want to initiate their kids in the wonders of healthy agriculture (and healthy eating!).

5. Pure Castile Rose Liquid Soap by Dr. Bronner ($10.99/ 16 oz.): This liquid soap boasts one of the cleanest vegetable oil-based formulas out there. Made with organic and certified fair-trade ingredients, Dr. Bronner's soap is created after the original formulas originating from the Castile region in Spain, with which I'm personally acquainted. Vegetable oil-based Castile soaps have been used in my country for centuries, and I'm really glad to report that Dr. Bronner's formula is very much what I expected.

This is a genuinely ecological and simple soap that can be used for almost anything: To clean your face, your body, or even your home – it's a great ally to wash food, do the dishes, get a sparkling laundry, mop your floors, or clean your pets– with no synthetic preservatives, detergents or foaming agents. This means no Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulfate, a common chemical detergent to which I am extremely allergic. I personally use Dr. Bronner's Pure Castile Liquid Soap to clean my kitchen and my bathroom; by mixing it with baking soda, it attacks the toughest grease stains. However, and because it is a very concentrated formula, you need to dilute it to get the best results. You can visit Dr. Bronner's blog here for suggestions on how to make the most of this wonderful product.

6. Hanging Air Plant Terrarium by Maker's Kit ($24, featured here with a black display stand from Amazon): This cute DIY green kit includes a hanging glass bubble, preserved moss and lichen, decorative rocks, a water atomizer, a Tillandsia plant, and an easy-to-follow set of instructions to take care of the lil' guy. You only need to provide a sunny spot for your new friend!
